Congratulations to the Ray-Pec theatre students, who won seven Blue Star Awards, setting a record for the most awards won by a show in the nine-year history of the program. Starlight Theatre and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City sponsor the program, which recognizes outstanding achievement in musical theatre production and performance among high school students around the metro area.
Ray-Pec won these awards for its musical “Crazy for You”: Outstanding Costume Design Tier II, Outstanding Scenic Design Tier II, Outstanding Technical Crew, Outstanding Male Ensemble Member – Josh Wagner, Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role – Seth Jones, and Outstanding Overall Production. Ray-Pec students also performed the number “Slap that Bass” as the opening number for the awards show. (The Tier II designation references the size of the show. The Tier II category comprises the larger shows.) This year, 46 high schools producing 51 musicals participated in the awards program.
